Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture in 1988 and a Master of Architecture degree in 1990 from the University of Michigan. He then worked as a project architect for Farrand & Associates in Ann Arbor, Michigan focusing primarily on design of single and multi-family residential and light commercial/industrial projects.

After earning his professional registration in architecture in 1993, Mike returned to the University of Michigan and earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1995. After completing business school, Mike joined the Business Development and Finance group at Ford Motor Land Development Corporation in Dearborn, Michigan. As a Financial Analyst, he focused on business planning and developing financial projections for commercial projects. Mike was then promoted to a position as Project Manager in the Construction and Engineering group where he focused on Research & Development and Heavy Industrial projects.

Mike left Ford Land in 1998 to join Bay Harbor Company in Petoskey, Michigan as the Staff Architect and Director of Building Construction. In this position, Mike was responsible for managing the design and construction of Bay Harbor’s Marina District. This $50 million mix-use complex now serves as “downtown” for the Bay Harbor community. Upon the completion of the Marina District in 2000, Mike joined North Star Builders and, with the existing partners, formed North Star Group, Incorporated.

North Star Group, Inc. is a full service design, build, and development entity focused primarily on up-scale custom homes and commercial facilities. In 2007, North Star Group joined in a partnership with Stephen Werner and formed Shoreline Architecture and Design. Mike’s role within North Star Group and Shoreline Architecture includes general management of company operations and finances, oversight of all design and construction management, as well as providing support for all individual project managers.
